WHAT WE DO
Strengthening Civil Society

The objective of this component is to strengthen civil society through support to a provincial NGO forum.

COCAMO supports a provincial forum known as the (Association for the Development of Community Organisations ADOC). ADOC is the largest association of local NGOs in the country, boasting a membership of more than 40 members. ADOC's role is to nurture the growth of emergent NGOs. It assists local NGOs to register, arranges training, provides access to a resource centre and lobbies government.

The bulk of COCAMO support to ADOC comes in the form of institutional and operational capacity building in a number of areas. Areas of emphasis are the re-vamping of decision-making and organisational structures. COCAMO mentors and accompanies new Board and staff on priorities such as the delivery of services to members, the development of a Gender and Development policy and project/programme analysis.

COCAMO also provides funds for infrastructure, maintenance and the ongoing development of the resource centre for members. COCAMO funds core operating costs to the centre and co-ordinates other donors to make financial contributions.
